Just got back from seeing Jurassic World and I was pleasantly surprised! My expectations were pretty low as the other Sequels in the Jurassic Park franchise were pretty poor.
This film is different...
I thought the original story of Jurassic Park ( novel by Michael Crichton) was great fun and really liked the warning about dangers of GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms)and the strong message to not tamper with nature. In anticipation for this new film and having seen the trailer I was preparing for a similar message as they talk about having "cooked up a new dinosaur" A Hybrid.
This is where things get a bit more interesting. The night before I saw the film I found a website covering the premiere of Jurassic World (see website here). It was then that I noticed a "harmonic" or some other information embedded in what I was seeing on the surface. In the photos we see Bryce Dallas Howard on the Red Carpet.
- Firstly this headline stuck out.

- Then I really noticed Bryce Dallas Howard's features/eyes.
It really stuck me when I saw these photos... how Reptilian she looks. ( I understand that would have been the theme. )
Then there was this photo which was the icing on the cake, I looked at Bryce and then at the background and then back at Bryce again. The information I was getting off of this photo set was that Bryce Dallas Howard was representing a "Human/Reptilian Hybrid Race". The film is about how "they" have genetically engineered a new Dinosaur , they mixed in genes from other Dinosaurs to create something that was far more frightening... a new hybrid species.
I was now opening my awareness to see the film on a higher harmonic than the surface or baseline narrative. This was an interesting experience because it wasn't to far of a stretch once I has setup my perspective and it was really fun, it felt like I was watching two movies at once. One version was the standard narrative of the film and another version which was a metaphor for some story about Reptilian genetics and how they have been manipulated and the politics between these two races. The plot of this 2nd "Narrative Harmonic " was mainly that Yes, humans had now aligned themselves with a Reptilian race on Earth but there is now another Hybrid Reptilian Race that has been created with cooperation from Humans and is wrecking havoc on Earth or "Jurassic World". So now they reptillians and humans who were once hostile to each other now have to work as a team to control this greater threat... Phew!
There are many scenes throughout the film where it seems quite obvious , they have "hidden in plain sight" the 2nd harmonic or plot. I will update this post as I am able to see the film again and dive deep into this complex story. There are many levels to interpreting this film. I am aware in the previous post that I mentioned the creators of films aren't always "In on it" and simply aren't aware of the other layers that can be interpreted, but this film seems to actually give a nod to the fact that it can be read into on different levels. it actually feel like its going out of it's way to say, "Hey, look here at this character! They represent this reptilian race or this hipster guy in the control room with the Jurassic Park shirt off eBay he represents YOU. ( I actually did look up Jurassic Park shirts on eBay and a lot of fans probably did, LOL) It all feels very much like the filmmakers are pointing their fingers at us.
Can't wait to dissect this film further and give examples of notable scenes where these connections can be made.
